More good timing

I recently wrote about how being in the right place at the right time can make a word of difference when covering the news.

While looking through some old photos, I came across this shot from last summer that I had forgotten about.

Here’s what I have written in the caption:

On my way out the door to work, I get a call from my editor about a boat fire. I thought for sure it would be out by the time I got there, but I rolled up and it was still going. This was my very first shot. I only got flames in this frame and the next one, all smoke after that.

Luckily, the folks aboard the boat were able to get to shore and no one was harmed. Still, a pretty bad day for them.

You always want flames in a fire shot, but rarely get them.
