Everybody has tough days at work now and again (OK, or a lot), but I’m lucky that my awesome work days more than make up for the bad ones.
On Friday, I spent a few hours kayaking on the Magothy River with a scientist for a possible story.
On our way back to the launch site, we paddled into a little pond on the river called Bohdal Pond. There are no homes on the pond, so it’s surrounded by trees and marsh plants. We saw a great blue heron, a green heron and some sort of egret.
So here’s what work looked like for me on Friday:
Unfortunately, the fun of doing research by kayak only lasted a few hours.
Once I got back to the newsroom, I was assigned to write a story about a person of authority accused of some very serious wrongdoing. Really slimy stuff. (UPDATE, 8/29/2010: Here is a link to the story. A male doctor was accused of having improper sexual relationships with two female patients. His medical license was suspended, and he’s appealing to get it back.)
But that’s how it goes in the news business — you never know what’s going to come next.
